Lors de la biennale de Dakar, j’ai pu assister à quelques vernissages et, parmi ces-derniers, celui de Keshia Leconte qui a retenu mon attention.

De retour des États-Unis, son bac en poche, Keshia opte pour la faculté d’arts plastiques de La Sorbonne (Paris) où, pendant 4 ans, elle aiguisera son talent.

On ne peut réellement parler de déclic dans la mesure où elle a toujours baigné dans cet univers artistique avec ses parents, notamment son père qui tenait une galerie à Dakar: «  j’ai toujours su que j’étais attirée par la production artistique. Cela dit, j’ai pu trouver mon style à la fac notamment avec mon prof, Mr Dulom, qui m’a poussée à trouver et à définir mon style ».  Elle perçoit « A cœur ouvert » comme un dévoilement au monde: « Je me mets à nu pour la première fois et je partage mon ressenti, ma vision du monde par l’humour et L’énergie des couleurs que j’utilise ».

Le message est simple: prendre la vie qui, on le sait tous, peut être parfois difficile à la rigolade. Keshia invite à relativiser et cherche à faire voyager le spectateur dans son univers et qu’à travers ses œuvres, on puisse trouver ce brin de positivité, une mission réussie.

During Dakar’s Biennale, i was able to attend some exhibitions and, among those, Keshia Leconte’s « À cœur ouvert » which really caught my attention.

Back from the US, her highschool diploma in hand, Keshia chose to study visual arts at La Sorbonne Paris where she shaped her talent for 4 yours.

We cannot really talk about some ‘’click’’ because she has always lived within this art bubble with her parents, especially her father who owned an art gallery in Dakar : ‘’ i’ve always known that i was attracted to artistic production. Also, with Mr Dulom, my teacher who kept pushing me, i was able to find and define my style as an artist ’’.

She perceives « À cœur ouvert » as an unveiling to the world : ‘’for the very first time i lay myself bare, sharing my feelings, the way i see the world and the energy of the colors that i use’’.

The message is simple : life can be difficult sometimes but do not take it seriously, laugh about it ! Keshia encourages us to put life in perspective, she wants to make the viewer travel into her world so they can find that glimpse of positiveness to feel good, a fulfilled mission.
